Santa Cruz, CA

Monterey Towers is an 18-unit multifamily housing project located at Lighthouse Field, a famous landmark located in the city of Santa Cruz at the north end of Monterey Bay. Thus, by virtue of it’s very siting, Monterey Towers commands unrivalled views of the sea. Conversely it can apparently be seen from quite some distance offshore, and so stands to become a local landmark. Our production of construction contract documents for the resulting building needed to be in conformance with the city planning department's conditions of approval, which among other aspects identified the design to be in the "Moderne" style, in turn also mandating other aesthetic considerations including a smooth stucco finish. The design intent of the H.O.A. as informed by the discretionary approval process of the City informed our preparation of the construction contract drawings and specifications from day one, and the resulting edifice is a testimonial to the team effort between the project’s various owners under the leadership of it’s capable Board, the City, our production design team, and the contractor to bring about a landmark.
