Ho'okipa House, Ho'okipa House is located high on the west flank of Haleakala volcano on a site commanding unrivalled views overlooking Maalaea Bay and the island of Lanai to the west, the West Maui Mountains to the northwest, and Kaho'Olawe island to the south. The program brief entailed alterations and additions to an existing 3,050 square foot residence resulting three bedrooms, four bathrooms, family room, living room, laundry, kitchen, dining room and living room. At the owner's initiative the home was designed and constructed as a healthy building project, emphasizing non-toxic building materials and reduced electromagnetic field (EMF) exposures within the living space of the building. Principal members of the design team included ourselves, Shelter for the Soul as interior designer and feng shui consultant, and Stephen Scott Electrical as EMF-mitigation consultant. In our capacity as Architect-of-Record we furnished architectural and engineering (A+E) services from the initial project programming and design phase, through construction contract documents phase, regulatory permit processing, and construction contract administration phase services. |
